Nam Thanh Nguyen

Intern in computational and Systems Biology and Bioinformatics

Nam Thanh Nguyen (he/him) is a senior at the University of California, San Diego and a
native in the region, where he is currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Human Biology and intends
to earn an M.D./Ph.D. focusing on infectious dieases and nephrology health. Nam is a council
member on the California Environmental Justice Advisory Council, working with both the
Department of Toxic Sustanaces Control and Board of Environmental Safety. He is also a
United Nations Local Pathways Fellow and Yale Path Scholar, where he focuses his efforts on
issues relating to the Tijuana Sewage Valley, advocating on issues relating to toxicology and
microbial pathogesis (e.g., microbe fecal matter). On the research front, Nam has experience
working in a myraid of different topics. Ranging from investatigating the carbonfootprint of
hemodialysis to identifying the intersection of burnout, depression, and suicide among of
healthcare workers. In the summer of 2025, Nam plans to investigate the comparison of the
metabolomic profile of HIV infected people and SIV infected NHP before and after ART,
planning to improve his expertise in the field of bioinformatics and obtain more knowledge on
immunocompromised individuals.
