Fatima Mostefai
Postdoctoral Fellow
Fatima Mostefai joined the BCGE group at CVVR in April 2025 to study how host biomarkers can influence HIV integration features, and how these features shape the latent reservoir maintenance and persistence. Before coming to CVVR, Fatima completed her PhD in bioinformatics at the University of Montreal. Her doctoral work focused on the evolution of intra-host mutations in SARS-CoV-2, where she developed workflows for large-scale sequencing data analysis and used machine learning techniques, such as dimensionality reduction, to study viral diversity and evolution during infection. Before that, Fatima earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Ottawa.
Throughout her training, she has built a strong background in genomics, sequencing data analysis, and computational biology. She is excited to apply these skills to HIV research and contribute to understanding mechanisms of viral persistence with the broader goal of informing cure strategies. Fatima views science as a puzzle that is best solved through teamwork and is always open to new collaborations.
